Standing Panel on the Federal System
Meetings

Joint Meeting of the NAPA Federal System Panel and the Management Network of The Finance Project

Friday, March 7, 2003

8:30-11:30 am

The Finance Project offices, 1401 New York Avenue, NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005

Speaker:Herb Hill, Director of Planning and Budget, Commonwealth of Virginia

Topic: Fiscal crisis and governmental restructuring and reorganization

The Federal System Panel and the Management Network of The Finance Project both selected the fiscal crisis for state and local governments as the topic for their meetings on March 7 and invited many of the same participants, so the two organizations decided to combine resources and hold a joint meeting for the first time. The Management Network, an informal group composed of representatives of state and local public interest groups and others involved in intergovernmental programs, meets regularly to share perspectives and best practices in areas of mutual interest.

As is the group's custom, after the speaker's presentation, the participants went around the table reporting on recent experiences in their organizations and the fiscal issues facing their organizations. The Finance Project staff also shared the results from a recent survey of the members of the Management Network on their experiences with the costs and functions involved in efforts to improve homeland security programs.
For more information on any of these activities, please contact Jim Frech, Program Manager of the Managing for Results project for The Finance Project jfrech@financeproject.org or 202-587-1019
