Disclosure Statement of Bruce McDowell: I do not believe that I have either a potential conflict of interest or source of bias in regard to serving on the Panel. However, I wish to disclose that I am currently serving in a paid consultant capacity on an FTA-funded study of local transit agency participation in the federally required Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) process. The FTA contract is with AECOM, but the primary responsibility for preparing the study has been subcontracted to the Parsons Brinkerhoff company.

As a subcontractor to Parsons, I am one of the three principal staff members doing the research and preparing the report to FTA. I do not expect to be making any statements about the project that would be attributed to me personally. The report presented to FTA later this year will be the product of the consultant team. I do expect that my name will appear on the report as part of the team.

I believe this consultant assignment will make me more valuable to the CIGP Panel assignment.

Academy Fellow Celebrates Fifty Years of Public Causes

Academy Fellow Brian O’Connell shares the priceless lessons he has learned during a lifetime of third sector experience in Fifty Years in Public Causes: Stories from a Road Less Traveled. O’Connell’s memoir traces his remarkable life in public service, from his early forays in the non-profit sector to his ascendancy as national director of the Mental Health Association, and then as founder of the Independent Sector.

Told through fascinating personal stories, O’Connell’s memoir includes a strong mandate to his successors in public service. He offers his readers the lessons he would emphasize for those who take the journey on that road less traveled.
