Review of the Organizational Management at the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General (posted 05/07/09)
U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General
The Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General (DoC OIG) has engaged the National Academy of Public Administration to conduct an organizational analysis, identifying areas to address in their subsequent strategic plan. The intent of the project is to identify current staffing issues within the office, gaps in optimal performance, and issues for the management team to address in its subsequent plans and performance monitoring.
The 65 day organization analysis will result in a report of issues that will set the stage for a DoC OIG senior team strategic planning session. Optional tasks may be exercised to facilitate that session, as well as develop a performance measurement framework. The National Academy is partnering on this project with an external facilitator to support the optional tasks.
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at the Department of Commerce has endured a difficult period of disruption. With new leadership at the top and restructuring plans anticipated, the IG is well positioned to influence the culture, values and performance of the office and the Department. The new leaders aim to build a shared cultural foundation that promotes accountability and measurable results.
The OIG seeks to engage an independent party to conduct an organizational assessment addressing its key internal functions, reporting structures, communication flows, and performance metrics. The OIG leadership team also seeks support in establishing a clear strategy, objectives and performance measure system for the organization. This work is the beginning of the process of transforming the organizational culture to one focused on accountability and results.

When a project is completed and the report or other produce is issued, the project would be removed from the current projects listing.
A key event requiring considerable change is the first Panel meeting. There should be some sort of a flag that calls attention to the need for a change when that date has passed.
