EOM Panel Meeting

National Academy of Public Administration
1600 K Street, NW, Suite 400
Washington DC,

Friday, January 18, 2019 at 10:00am - 12:00pm

The Executive Organization and Management Panel will meet on Friday, January 18th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Guest Speakers:

  • Robert Shea, Moderator; Grant Thornton (and former commissioner on the Commission)
  • Nick Hart, Bipartisan Policy Center (and former research director for the Commission)
  • Nancy Potok, Chief Statistician of the U.S. (and former commissioner on the Commission)
  • Kathy Stack, former OMB lead of its evidence and innovation unit
    Christian Hoehner, Data Coalition

In one of its last actions before adjourning last month, the 115th Congress passed the “Foundations of Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018.” The President is expected to sign the legislation into law in the next week or so. This new law implements about half of the recommendations made by the Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking in September 2017. Among other things, the new law requires agencies to designate Evaluation Officers and Chief Data Officers, and publish their data sets in machine-readable form.

This panel session will discuss the provisions in the new law, and the next steps and potential challenges in implementing these new requirements.
